At Branton and Breamish the Early Years class consists of Nursery and Reception during the Spring and Summer terms. Year 1 children remain in Class 1 during the Autumn term to enable them all to meet all the Early Learning Goals and to continue to access a play based curriculum during their transition to the National Curriculum.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) has seven Areas of Learning.
The Prime Areas are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
The Specific Areas are:
- Knowledge of the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Each child in Class 1 has designated a key worker. Amongst other things, the key worker is responsible for keeping the child's Learning Journey file up to date in order to ensure their progress.
Parents receive a regular Progress Summary for their child which they can also access through Tapestry (see link below) and will be able to attend regular parent meetings to talk to staff about their child's progress.
At Branton and Breamish we also operate an open door policy so parents can talk to their child's key worker, or any teacher, whenever they need.
