Our Home Learning Offer

Our School Home Learning Offer

At Branton Community Primary School we are committed to providing good quality home learning for all our pupils during any period when attendance is restricted to children of Critical Workers and Vulnerable Children and on any other periods of closure such as 'Snow Days'.

As a school team, we know our pupils well and are able to respond to the individual needs and support them on an individual basis.

We keep in daily contact with parents and pupils and parents know they can contact us at any time for support.

We use Google Classroom to set work for all our school pupils, and we have been fortunate enough to have sufficient devices in school to give all our pupils a Chromebook to access their learning.

For our nursery pupils, we share learning through the communication platform Tapestry, where parents can follow links, upload photos, and make comments themselves.
School-Aged Pupils

All our school-aged pupils learning from home have been provided with a Chromebook, ready set up to access Google Classroom. They have also been supplied with a learning box that includes a range of equipment that they may need to support their learning, this includes books, pencils, scissors and glue, but also learning apparatus such as numicon and cubes, rulers and coins.

As required by the Government , we are providing Maths and English activities each day along with activities and lessons from other areas of the curriculum, including Science, History, Geography, Music, DT, RE, PE, and PSHE.

As a school, we appreciate the different demands on each family and that each family has different commitments, therefore we mark some lessons/activities as 'Optional', so that parents and children can make decisions and prioritise learning.

We are using a variety of activities and lessons, such as those from the Oak Academy, which are in units that children can work through at their own speed.  Parents then have the option of assisting their children to submit work, posting comments, or emailing us to keep in touch.

We are posting out a weekly pack of activities to support the online learning so that parents don't need to worry about printing out sheets. We include some just for fun activities too.

To support our online offer there are many resources that we are signposting parents to, such as The Oak Academy, BBC Bitesize daily along with YouTube resources such as Ruth Miskin Daily Phonics Sessions and Joe Wicks workouts.
Early Years Children Aged 2-4

Early Years Children learn through play, and the value of play must be recognised. Therefore there is not the same requirement for the more formal learning that we provide for our school age children.

We provide links to optional activities that our nursery parents may like to dip in and out of with children who would usually attend our nursery but now find themselves at home.

We share activities and links with our nursery parents via Tapestry, our online learning journal, that allows us and parents to share their child's learning.

Activities range from ideas for outdoor or creative play, links to online learning units or teaching videos such as the daily phonics sessions provided by Ruth Miskin on her YouTube Channel that supports the Read Write Inc Phonics that we use in school.

Our parents are encouraged to share any home learning with us so that we can all share the progress our children are making, whether at home or school.

Look under our Early Years tab in our Home Learning area to find lots of links and ideas for our youngest children.
