September 2017

Tuesday 26th September
We are now speeding towards the end of September at an alarming rate! Friday this week will see our annual fundraising event for Macmillan, with our Coffee Morning starting at 10 am. Our PTA will be manning the cake stall so all donations of cakes, cup cakes, biscuits would be much appreciated by us all to help raise funds for this charity and our PTA.
Yesterday we were visited by the team at Alnwick Gardens who asked if they could film some interviews with our children about the Roots and Shoots Project that they took part in last year.  This will become part of a film to publicize the project in local schools and also to the general pubic. We will be sent a link and we will share that with you as soon as it arrives in school.  Well done to everyone who took part!
Miss Gair and myself have been 'missing from school' for the last two Thursdays so that we could be up to date with our Paediatric First Aid.  All our teaching and support staff hold their paediatric first aid qualifications which are renewed every three years to ensure we all know what to do in an emergency and also for those regular bumps and scrapes that are part of growing up!  The latest first aid training also ensures all school staff are up to date and achieve 'Milly's Mark', which came from an incident in a nursery where a little girl called Milly choked as no staff members knew what to do.
It is getting to the time of year when although the temperatures may rise by the middle of the school day, it can still be quite chilly in the mornings, so please can all children have a coat hat and gloves at school?
Next week we will be celebrating our Harvest Festival at Ingram Church with Reverend Marion.  This year we again are collecting for the Peoples Kitchen and Children North East for our Harvest, and are asking for tins, breakfast cereal, baby food in jars, pasta, toothpaste, woolen gloves and hats.  Anything that isn’t fresh to avoid problems with storage. As we are swimming we will then return to school for our early lunch.
We will be holding a sharing assembly on Wednesday 18th October at 10 am where we will share what we have been up to at Branton and Breamish this half term.  Teas, coffees and biscuits will be served afterwards.  We look forward to seeing you!
School will close on Friday 20th October at the usual time of 3.15 pm for the half term break.
Thursday 7th September 2017
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to our new school year!
It was lovely to see all our children back at school and nursery yesterday and today and hearing all about the lovely things they have been doing over the summer break.
We have been focusing on our new school year 'set up', and have talked about our class and school  rules and rewards.
Some of you will have seen our Home School Agreement, which children and staff will have signed before you see it at home. We would like those returned to put into your child's file, and a they will be copied once signed, for your child to keep in their book bag to remind themselves of our pupil-parent-school shared agreement.
Football was very well received yesterday, and Ryan has sent home letters about the after school club that will be running, in 4 week blocks, beginning next Wednesday, so if you would like your child to attend, please return the slip to school for Ryan to collect next week.  We will let him know how many children have signed up early next week, and as always for our sports coaches there is a minimum number to make it viable for the clubs to be run, so we will confirm with you that it is taking place by Tuesday next week.
All our children seemed to enjoy their first swimming lesson this afternoon, and thank you to those of you who have or are in the process of arranging a swimming hat for those children with long hair. It is really appreciated by the Willowburn Team.
Tomorrow will see our return to Yoga Stories with Mrs Kate Thompson, alongside Drama with Miss Jill Thomson.  If all children can come dressed ready for Yoga, and bring their school uniform to change into afterwards, as they can get very warm.  They are welcome to bring their own mats or rugs to lie on during the yoga sessions.  Violins are not needed back in school until Friday 22nd September when our sessions begin again with Mrs Nicklen.
Next week our children in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be taking part in a Roots and Shoots celebration event at Alnwick Gardens on Tuesday 12th September.  There will be a celebration of all they have achieved during their involvement in the project, and they will also be harvesting their crops.  This will be a full day visit, so children will need suitable clothing to be outside, so waterproofs and sunhats and sun cream as we just can't predict the weather! Miss Plunkett and Miss Birdsall will talk to the children about all they need for the day. Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children will remain in school on that day.
Can we please ask that if you change arrangements the end of the school day, such as your child not travelling on school transport or a different adult picking up your child, that you let school know? Either via email, phone or a note in your child's home school book? We also operate a password system to help us identify the adults picking up your child so please remember to give your the password to the adult collecting.  Please speak to Mrs McCann if you need to update or change your password. I apologise if this seems pedantic, but your child's safety is our priority, and different staff may be seeing children out at the end of the day and not be familiar with all family members or adults collecting children at the end of the day.
Over the next week I will be adding all the dates until the end of the school term to the calendar on our school website, we have lots of events this term to look forward to, so do take a look!
Thank you all for your continued support, our team at Branton and Breamish really appreciate it.

Friday 15th September
What a busy week! After our first Yoga Stories and Drama sessions of the term last Friday it hardly felt like the summer break had happened and we were quickly back into our routines.
This  week Class 2 had a wonderful day at the Roots and Shoots Celebration Event at Alnwick Gardens on Tuesday.  Miss Plunkett kindly posted some information on our Facebook page about the local ITV news as some of our children were interviewed.  How proud we felt to see two of our children speaking so well in front of the camera.  If you weren't able to catch it see the link after this blog to see the clip. Well done to Kitty and Fred who spoke so well! All of Class 2 enjoyed harvesting their crops and bringing some home to share.  What a lovely project it has been to be involved in!
Class 1 have also been busy this week.  We have been reading stories with pattern and rhyme, and all the children loved 'Superworm'!  We are also learning about our families, and would be really grateful if you could send photos of family members into school that we will photocopy and return to you.  We are collating family trees, and would like to put photos of their relatives onto the trees.
Miss Birdsall began her origami club this week and it was really well attended with great concentration and lots of folding taking place!
Ryan was very impressed with all our footballers on Wednesday, and thankfully the weather held for a lovely afternoon of football. Some children stayed after school for the first of our after school football sessions which will run for four weeks in total this half term.
Our Intu Film Club will begin next Thursday 21st September, so please look out for the letter sent home today. Please return the reply slips if you would like your child to stay to any of the Film Club events this half term.
Some dates for your diaries!
Friday 29th September will be our Macmillan Coffee Morning in association with our PTA. It will begin at 10 am so please do come along and join us if you can.  All donations of cakes and biscuits will be gratefully received! Any funds raised will be split equally between Macmillan and our PTA.
